Jim Morgan represented Morgan Insurance Group as transport insurance specialists at the Freight2020 VISION 2017 user group conference in Melbourne on 21-22 March 2017. This major event offered Morgan the opportunity to network with business leaders in the road freight transport and logistics industry from Australia and New Zealand, gaining insight into their challenges with regard to the complexities of transport insurance and suggesting where deployment of the Freight2020 system could assist with the expedition of claims when an incident or accident has occurred.
More than 150 people were registered for the conference held on the first floor of Rydges in the Melbourne CBD. For the first half of the day, all delegates were seated around tables in one main room for guest speakers and plenary presentations. Then, after a working-style lunch in the foyer area, various breakout sessions ran simultaneously in three neighbouring rooms throughout the afternoon, each room filled to comfortable capacity with 30-40 delegates per presentation.
Highlights of the day included an analysis of the road freight transport industry and business performance presented by a senior executive from ANZ; and a breakout session on Compliance Management using the Freight2020 system with a guest speaker presenting case studies of actual accident investigations, and how transport businesses need to prepare for coming changes in Chain of Responsibility legislation.
Jim said of his exhibition at Freight2020 VISION 2017: “The time I spent talking directly with transport industry business owners and managers was invaluable. As transport insurance specialists, it’s very important for our firm to understand the changing needs of general freight and container carriers in cities and regional areas as much as companies operating in remote areas and specialised freight markets. With some transport companies based in Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Northern Queensland operating in the most remote and isolated situations imaginable, it’s amazing to see what is being achieved with the deployment of Freight2020 technology.”
With many delegates arriving in Melbourne from interstate and overseas on the eve of the conference, the leading event partner, Progress, hosted a ‘welcome’ function at Rydges followed by teppanyaki dinner at a nearby restaurant. These ‘icebreaker’ activities encouraged visiting delegates to meet and connect before attending sessions the following day.
“We would like to become even more involved with this same event next year. The knowledge shared and connections made meant that it was very interesting and worthwhile. Judging by the huge attendance this year and the enthusiastic comments made by delegates around the all-day espresso bar right near my display stand, Freight2020 VISION has arrived as a significant transport industry technology event,” Jim said.
Also presenting and exhibiting at Freight2020 VISION 2017 were Freight2020 technology partners including Progress, Upstream (Fuji Xerox), Transtech (Teletrac Navman), and Gamma Solutions. Each of the three Freight2020 VISION 2017 break-out rooms was used simultaneously throughout the afternoon to run ‘deep dive’ sessions for smaller groups. Upstream (Fuji Xerox) presented two sessions on digital document management at Freight2020 VISION 2017. The latest driver fatigue management technology was demonstrated by Transtech (Teletrac Navman).
